Selivanova I.F.

Abstract

The article examines the new challenges faced by Transnistria in 2014–2015. The signing of the Moldova-Ukraine Association Agreement with the EU led to: – a new format of relations with the TMR; – the sharp aggravation of Russian–Ukrainian and Russian–Moldovan relations; – the involvement of USA, EU, Romania in the internal problems of Moldova. This could not but complicate both socio-economic status of the unrecognized republic and prospects for the Transnistrian conflict settlement. Political crisis in Moldova, new developments in the internal political process of Transnistria create a situation with unpredictable consequences not only for Tiraspol and Chisinau, and derive the problem far beyond the regional one, involving the leading actors of international relations – Russia, USA, EU and NATO.
