The paper looks at the foreign policy strategies pursued during the presidencies of V. Yushenko and V. Yanukovich as well as their roles in the evolution
of Russia–Ukraine relations and the relations between Ukraine and the European Union in 2005–2014. Analyzed are the causes that produced a deep political crisis in Ukraine and led to the Ukrainian coup d’etat in February 2014.
