The article looks at the mass radical nationalism in today’s Ukraine. Arguing that this mentality stems from the neurotic collective narcissism, the author traces its roots to the historic «trauma of modernization» and social stress, i.e. social
conditions in which nationalistic attitudes become an illusory compensation for the feelings of «historic inferiority». Special attention is paid to the postulation of
«integral nationalism» by D. Dontsov as the most popular present-day version
of Ukrainian radical nationalism.
