Abstract

The reviewed monograph by A. Willimott is devoted to the phenomenon of urban communes that existed in the early period of Soviet history (1917–1932). The author explores the socio-cultural preconditions for the appearance of communes in Soviet cities, the everyday life of communards, the flourishing and decline of urban communes at the turn of the 1920–1930 s.
