The article deals with the evolution and current state of nuclear deterrence
concepts in the USA and the USSR in the XX century and the current state of these
concepts. The author concludes that nuclear deterrence has not lost its relevance in the
XXI st century, and modern Russia and the United States should resume the dialogue on
nuclear arms reduction.
