Energy transition: perspectives and mechanisms of realization

Kodaneva S.I.

Abstract

The growing concern of the world community with the issue of sustainable development encourages many countries to pursue policies aimed at reducing carbon consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This creates a negative trend for the extractive industry, which has greatly increased due to spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. An immediate response from fuel and energy companies is needed, in particular, the introduction of sustainable development strategies. This research is devoted to an urgent problem – the development of a methodology for implementing corporate social responsibility in fuel and energy companies and attracting socially responsible investments. Its novelty is based on the fact that the fuel and energy companies themselves do not demonstrate commitment to sustainable development goals, and there are practically no publications in the scientific literature on the subject from the perspective of the fuel and energy sector. In addition, the authors propose a methodology based on a combination of strict government regulation and the ESG concept used in corporate governance and investment practices. The research used methods of economic and logical analysis, analysis of scientific and business literature, comparative analysis, expert assessments, systematization, generalization, and a systematic approach.
