The article attempts to assess the teachings of Marx in the context of modern
ideas about the history of economic science. The author analyzes the works of the
predecessors of Marx, Saint-Simon, Ricardo, Smith, etc., demonstrating that in many
respects Marx was not self-sufficient and often sacrificed his scientific intentions to politics
and ideology.
