Business as a driver of Eurasian integration and a factor of the EAEU sustainability

Мартынова Е.С.

Abstract

Eurasian integration today plays an increasing role in the socio-economic development of both Russia and its closest partners in the EAEU. Previously, despite the abundance of official statements and documents, the EAEU played a peripheral role in Russian foreign policy. For Russia, the Union is now turning into an important tool for increasing resistance to the sanctions regime, reducing technological and financial dependence from the West, and developing foreign trade relations with friendly countries. The author posits that a comprehensive involvement of business in integration processes is the most important condition for the implementation of large-scale joint projects and the deepening of mutually beneficial economic cooperation between the EAEU countries. It is business that can play a cementing role in the further development of the Eurasian Union. The article also discusses the prospects for expanding the EAEU membership as well as a number of important problems with existing members of the association.
