The authors of this peer-reviewed collective monograph focus on security
issues within the EU that are unrelated to military actions. Security has consistently been
a fundamental ontological issue for humanity. Since its formation, the EU has emphasized
policies aimed at guaranteeing political, economic, and social security. As the third decade
of the 21st century begins, the EU, in concert with the rest of the world, has confronted new
security challenges, including non-military ones, and has had to formulate responses to these
challenges.
