«There is only a moment between the past and the future...». Review of the Monograph: Jener H. «Wolf Time. Germany and the Germans 1945–1955» (Moscow, 2024)

Belinsky A.V.

Abstract

The monograph under review is dedicated to everyday life in Germany during the period from 1945 to 1955. Drawing on archival documents, diaries, and memoirs, H. Jener reconstructs a complex and multifaceted picture of German life in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. The author emphasizes key aspects such as the “black market,” which became a crucial means of survival for many Germans, the relationships between former adversaries, and the spiritual life of the population. The book illuminates numerous elements of German daily life that have previously received limited attention in both foreign and domestic historiography.
